This is definitely a low budget, bad history film of the nations founding at Jamestown. The enjoyment factor is just how intriguingly bad the film is. For lovers of Science Mystery Theater 2000, this is your ideal background film. You will relish the brown California mountains towering above a set of tidewater Virginia which is as realistically rendered as a high school drama production. Pocohontas is a shockingly Anglo native-american (in doe-skin 40's bathing suit)who has got that Hollywood golden age pouty pugnaciousness down to a T. The Susan Constant is inexplicably always far out to sea with big jello waves crashing over her bow while anchored to Jamestown Island. Captain John Smith (an unfortunately favored Errol Flyn wannabe)is the only one with his shirt off as he constantly faces the camera. The spirit of the film is classic B-grade: underdogs are nice to the natives and those uppity aristocrats get whats coming to 'em. A great piece of historical fiction to watch late at night with the right crowd and beverages.Read full review
