Before the Pythons there was Peter Cook. His genius brought the craziness of the Goon Show to the upper crust Cambridge set. Wonderful performances here and the highlights are the famous Tarzan job interview and My Life Down in the Coal Mine. Peter Cook is one of the all-time comic greats and this is a chance to see some of his best work.
I saw the show more than once, not counting the farewell performance. I have mourned its passing ever since and I was delighted when I saw that this performance had been unearthed. In black and white, the quality is nonetheless very good, and it is a great pleasure to be constantly reminded of the vast quantity of irreverant mirth which seemed to affect the whole world of humour in this country.
