good book. depressing, but nonetheless good. it arrived in great condition. i finished reading it the same day it arrived. it’s a book that really makes you think and i believe should be read more than once to really understand. but in the end i think there’s not too much that needs understanding. this guy felt he could not be classified as human. he was scared of humans. he couldn’t understand them. he wanted to die. the author after writing this book died by double suicide. he achieved his goal.

This particular book by one of Japan's renowned writers where it tells the reader of the real Dazai's story through the fictional account of Yozo Oba, how he believes that he failed at being a human, despite his effort. The book explores the various decadences through humans and gives us a view of what can only be described as a dark era that went for as long as the protagonist can remember, exploring the negative aspects of being human, commentary on society through a glass that is half-empty. No Longer Human also explores themes that regard dark topics, on the likes of melancholy, depression and the nature of humans in general after Japan's journey through World War II, where the country was nothing but a wasteland of despair and some clinging on to hope, when it all they have left in a desolate land devastated by the war's aftermath.Read full review
