This book is absolutely hillarious! It puts a new spin on Armageddon while following the stories of an angel & demon who decide that they like the world as it is, a woman who has lived her life strictly following a book of nice and accurate prophesies, and the Antichrist and his small, fluffy hell hound named Dog. Heaps better and much more entertaining than people covered in fish! I absolutely adore the way that there is room for character development and you can even gain insights to how each character is feeling about Armageddon - even the four horsemen of the apocalypse get to take the stage at some point and not just to cause the end of the world; you get to ride with them too! The Antichrist, whose name is Adam, has been accidentally raised by the wrong family and it takes 10 years for the angel Aziraphale and the demon Crowley to realize the mistake. But as humans like Adam gets free will, Crowley and Aziraphale decide to be disobedient and attempt to prevent the Apocalypse. This unlikely match, who hold much secrets from each other only to have so many things in common and so many things they had previously thought were the works of the other (eg. parking tickets), brings a comic element to the story. While Aziraphale is everyone's loveable smart friend who just can't seem to get the grasp of what's cool, Crowley is the epitomy of class and style who anyone would love to know but would still be weary of. While one hesitates before breaking the rules due to fear of punishment, the other just doesn't seem to care much about punishments since he's in pretty deep already. To top this off there's also a witch who attempts to decipher prophecies from a book written by her ancestor as well as a witch hunter whose ancestor lead to the execution of the witches ancestor. Although this book is not a discworld novel, for me it has been an excellent way to be introduced to Terry Pratchett's wit. The dark tone is more likely Neil Gaiman's doing and leaves each page a new mystery and completely impossible to break away from. I laughed myself silly throughout the whole book, all to the amusement of others around me who later read the book and also joined in on the laughter. Good Omens takes a satirical approach in poking fun at things concerning the world we live in, using humour to point out how illogical and silly we can be sometimes, all for the sake of entertainment. And it really is good entertainment.Read full review
I am not a literary critic by any means, but I do enjoy science fiction and especially Neil Gaiman. If you expect this to be as good as American Gods or Anansi Boys then don't read, but if you can afford a little let down and read this gem then you will enjoy it. I think you have to think about when this was first published to make sense of some of the topics. The funniest thing to me was the references to the tape players and the band Queen. Todays youth would be hard pressed to know much about either. Anyway the book is a great read, I wont spoil it for you, but just dont hold it up to the high standards of American Gods and Anansi boys.
I have been a huge fan of these two authors for many years and this book has been a favorite since I first read. I have been through a few paperback copies and am SO happy to finally have a hardback copy. Amazing story and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves this genre of fiction!
Apart from being a hilarious and wonderful novel, this edition is particularly aesthetically pleasing and was in excellent condition.

Terry Pratchett. Neil Gaiman. Seriously, what more do you have to say? My sister and I read this book outloud together the first time we got it and there were times we were laughing too hard to go on. Whether Jesus Is The Telephone Operator on the Switchboard of Your Life or you think one demon killing another demon with holy water isn't below the belt, you will love this story of the Apocalypse.
Iam new to Pratchet and Garmin, I took a chance and glad I did.
