In 1974, THE DAVID STEINBERG SHOW entered the Canadian airwaves, with the inimitable comedian welcoming a variety of guests onto his fictional show. Similar to THE LARRY SANDERS SHOW, performers were shown both on and off stage, while recurrent characters such as musician Spider Reichman (John Candy) and security guard James MacGregor (Dave Thomas) added a modicum of continuity to each show. Something of a precursor to SCTV, which many of THE DAVID STEINBERG SHOW's performers went on to star in, this Canadian cult hit is a great way to experience some early performances from future comedy greats; alongside Steinberg, Candy, and Thomas, appearances are made by Martin Short, Joe Flaherty, and Andrea Martin.

Top-Rated Comedy Blast From The Past (with an SCTV prequel feel ;>)
Hard-to-find, but nonetheless an INCREDIBLE collection of Steinberg's eary 1970s comedy sketch program. ALL the SCTV crew are here practicing their craft for their own show later in the decade. And, hey, Steinberg is no slouch either! The way he manages to bring out the comedic talents of the MANY guest stars is perfect, especially when he has comedy gods such as Tommy Smothers and Milton Berle to bounce off of. It;s not all hilarious, and some of the Canadian jokes will fly over the head, but this collection brings MANY surprises, and a whole lot of "Where have I seen him/her/it before?" Buy the ticket....take the ride....you won't be sorry!
