Product Information
The Yamaha RX-495 provides high output power with impressive sound quality. It features Pure Direct Switch and Amplification Circuit. When this switch is engaged, the input signal bypasses the bass, treble, loudness, and balance circuits and travels straight to the power amplifier. You can choose this short, direct path if you want maximum signal purity. At low volumes, the ear is less sensitive to low and high tones. A loudness switch does not solve the problem because it adjusts at only one level. Yamaha's exclusive Continuously Variable Loudness Control is the only way to fully compensate for this effect. This feature adjusts the volume while boosting or cutting the midrange to maintain proper tonal balance.Metal front panel prevents radio frequency interference (RFI), which degrades sound quality if component is placed near a TV or other source of RFI. A linear damping factor of 100 (8 ohms 20-20,000 Hz) means plenty of ability to stop the speaker cone from vibrating when the signal stops. Yamaha's circuit cancels the effect of level and frequency variations, maintaining a high, stable damping factor. The result is superior articulation of all sounds and significantly improved frequency response. The Yamaha RX-495's 26 key system remote control means you can use the remote to control the major functions of other Yamaha components, reducing the number of remotes you need. Preset stations can be grouped in five sets of eight, according to AM and FM, or musical genre, or any order you desire. Sleep timer switches unit off, after up to one hour of play. Better FM tuner specification than contemporary receivers.
It has better sound reproduction than the comparable Yamaha products from five years earlier. The tuner resolves stereo better, even with the same sensitivity specification. The tuner is about 10dB better than FM receivers from the 20-teens era. Modern "bluetooth" receivers in the $200+ range are a disappointment in that respect. It is easy to operate with its "mode" buttons on the front panel. The "CD Direct" button is rather a quaint notion. The receiver is reliable: my comparable RX-395 lasted 20 years before it lost one channel. It has real banana-jack-binding-posts for the speakers. The FM antenna port uses a real coaxial jack instead of a spring-clip thing. The FM antenna jack is an unusual design that is not an F connector. Don't lose your adapter! I discovered that I can feed audio into it through one of the "tape deck output ports". Great quality sound reproduction
Yamaha has been a leader in Stereo sound support systems for decades and this in one of there flagship product first developed in the 80's and continued throughout the 90's. Part of the "Natural Sound" systems it faithfully reproduces your source sound whether it be CD, FM/AM, or from an auxillary source. A major feature that only found in the Yamaha system is the "Direct" switch which bypasses all the sound modifiers (treble, bass, loudness, etc.) if you are an audiophile fan you will use this functionality with your turntable (Phono) or CD to listen to your recordings exactly as they were engineered by the original recording artist. One other feature for the audiophile fan is the ability to add a graphic equalizer to the Tape loop output/input and shape the sound to suite your environment or listening area producing the perfect flat reproduction.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned
