Author Schumacher brings a legendary story to life with wonderful storytelling ability. Even though there is little new material on the subject, I found it to be a real page turner due to the way the author retold the tale. He did a tremendous amount of research with living family members and great lakes sailors and experts that fleshed out the tale. I liked this book so much that I bought his work on the Carl D. Bradley sinking in Lake Michigan. Here's to hoping that Schumacher follows up with similar works on the S.S. Cedarville and Daniel J. Morrell sinkings as well. He has a knack for great lakes lore.
After a recent trip to Sault ste Marie Michigan I had a renewed interest in the Fitzgerald disaster. This was a great book about the Fitzgerald and also very informative. Highly recommended for those interested in the wreck of the Fitzgerald.

This is one of the better books on the tragedy of the Edmund Fitzgerald. I especially liked the character studies of the various members of the crew and their families.
