After testing these clubs along with the i3+ blades, eye2, zings, and isik's, I bought these. All the irons except the 3 all jumped off my club with high ball flight and maximum distance. The 3 iron is not at fault I just have never been able to hit one. The best thing I liked about these clubs is that even though they are unbelievably forgiving, you can still feel a miss hit even though it's hard to tell by watching the shot which still flies far and nearly true. I also like the fact that they can be changed +or- 4 degrees at most shops or by ping themselves for free. I tested black dot or reg and now play with a +2 or green dot to lower my ball flight and increase my distance. Whoever posted about needing a great swing and no forgiveness must have had these clubs confused with the i3+ blades which I had great results when hitting the sweet spot but merciless if bladed or hit off the toe. I used to shoot in the mid 90's before these clubs and now I'm averaging in the the low 80's after a month with these and swinging a 40oz. momentus 7 iron before every round which has cured my outside in swing that was the cause of alot of embarassing slices.Read full review
I have been playing golf since high school, which is to say over 25 years and I have used many different sets. That being said, Ping i/3 O-size is the best model I have ever used. They have a great sweet spot and great forgiveness if you miss it. I just switched from stiff flex to regular in hopes to save my back. First time out and they hit just like before but with a lighter swing. I expected no less and can't wait to go play again. I really can say nothing bad about 'em. If you are a beginner there is no point in paying a fortune on new clubs when you can get a set of these on Ebay for less than $200. Just make sure that you check with the Ping color chart for the right fit before bidding. Hit 'em well.
What i want to point out about this set of clubs is the perfect match between great performance/easy to hit club/teaching tool. Great performance: I hit long and straight like never before. Remember I'm a beginner but with a fairly good swing. My 9 Iron is solid on the 130 yards and the fantastic feeling to hit 3 consecutive balls in a ray of 10 feet from each other is priceless for me. Get custom fit. Easy to Hit: The over size face of the club helps you to reduce shanks and miss hit, with my basic skills I still can't work the ball so I don't know is the O-Sized face is an obstacle for very good players. Teaching Tool: I find this characteristic the most exciting. When you hit the ball correctly in the sweet spot, is like a warm knife in butter...the impact with the ball is so soft that is amazing and also the sound of the impact is soft. When you hit on the toe or on the heel the sound is loud, the twist and feeling on your hands is strong...but the ball still fly long and fairly straigh. If you learn how to interpret the feedback after every shot... is like receiving a lesson by your own clubs.Read full review
I have played a few different sets of clubs in the past and one being a set of ISI-K Pings. I thought that it wouldn't get any better than the ISI's and then I bought the I3's. Man!!! Was I impressed. I have never been able to hit a 3 or a 4 iron even if my life depended on it but my very first time out on the range with these new clubs and I was blasting 3's and 4's straight down the gut with hybrid like distance. As a matter of fact my hybrids are now on the shelf in the garage. They have a nice feel through out the entire swing a little heavier than some irons but a great feel. If you have played o size irons in the past the switch over is very easy. These are deadly accurate. Just use some common sense and get fitted and you can't go wrong.
I have been looking for a good set of Pings for a while, and was not prepared to pay the new price for something that I only use 2 or 3 times a month. I was pleasantly surprised to find these Ping I3 O-Size 3 - LW clubs on eBay for a lot less than I expected to pay. I have played one round with them, and I am happy to report that they exceeded expectations. Contact feels very solid, and I gained about a club in distance. I was contemplating changing the JZ Regular Cushin shafts to stiff flex, but these regular flex shafts are just right. The color code that I selected, which is Green Dot, based on the Ping Color Coding System, is also perfect. I realised that I have always been playing with clubs that had lies that were too flat, hence my tendency to fade my iron shots. With these, I have a nice gentle draw, once I corrected my aim to allow for a draw, and not my customery fade! Overall, I am very glad I chose to go back to Pings, after a few trials with other brands of irons. My confidence is once again back in my iron play.Read full review
