This DVD uses authentic French language speakers, which is a real plus. I like the reinforcement it offers through the quizzes (make sure your child is old enough to use the DVD remote before purchasing- this is necessary to complete the quizzes); however, Mr. Language Tree, who is dressed more like the Green Giant, is a bit hokey, and if your child cannot yet read well in English they have only context to learn the meanings of the words from. I think this is useful as a reinforcement if you are teaching the language in other ways as well.
Quite good for younger children. Grades 1 to 4. Children especially like the interactive games. Volume 1 appears to be better than volume 2. You will learn colors, numbers, family members, food, and participate to a French "anniversaire". If interested in learning French for little ones, combine these two volume with an internet subscription to Babelzone/french. The kids in my class enjoy that also very much.
The audio on the video is horrible. The background music is too loud and you can't hear the actors speak. So basically the video is useless. If there was a way to turn off the background music the video wouldn't be that bad. Also the part where you have to use your remote to answer questions is annoying.
