This is a great classic film from 1937! It is included in the spring 2011 choices of "The Essentials" on TCM. Yes, it is an essential film for the classic movie lover. With its two main stars each future recipients of the Kennedy Center Honor (Ginger Rogers and Katharine Hepburn), you can't make a mistake with this great movie! With the cast also including, but not limited to, Adolph Menjou, Lucille Ball, Eve Arden, Ann Miller, Andrea Leeds, and others, the great comic bits just don't stop. It also gave fine dramatic experience and exposure for the talents of Ginger Rogers and Andrea Leeds (Hepburn had already scored significantly on the dramatic side.) Story of young actresses living in a boarding house in NYC during the '30's, this is a fine story well told and played. Laugh and cry, this is a great way to spend 100 minutes or so. Get it and treasure a classic!Read full review
This is one of my favorite movies! Funny and poignant, the edgy repartee between Rogers and Hepburn is classic. It's also entertaining as Rogers has a dance number in this film.

This is a good movie, chock full of '30s up-and-comer female actresses, some of whom fared better than others in the world of celebrity. The dialog is quick and entertaining. The women are generally catty, as we would expect, and occasionally mean, but they generally supported each other.
