This book was very average even a bit boring. It was good in that it simply listed a lot of names and gives a very, very brief description. I would not buy this book again though. Picking out a name for your child can be a very difficult process like it was for me. The name book I found most helpful (I bought 5!) was The Baby Name Wizard by Laura Wattenberg. It was a great book, very helpful and a lot of fun. What she does is go through names, gives a chart of the past 100 years and shows how their popularity has gone up or down. She also gives their current rank of popularity, and the best part is she gives a great description and analysis of how the name is viewed in todays America. Really CHARMING! Please buy it. Brian
My pregnant daughter had been trying to research names she liked off internet sites and found that they were time comsuming and difficult to use. We had seen this book and similiar books in book stores for much more money and decided that it would work well for her. The book has a wide variety of what I would call normal and different names. It is very well organized and easy to use. It was in perfect condition, you could not tell it had even been used. It will be great to pass down to other pregnant members in upcoming years. Great buy - nice book.
This is rated (at least on the book cover) as the #1 baby-naming book on the market. There are a lot of names, though many of them are not very helpful. There are lots of silly inclusions from the wacky names celebrities use for their kids and many last names as first names and names taken from movies that mean nothing (like Rambo) with meanings that are obviously made up as there is no basis for the meaning. Sixty-four pages are taken up by 230 lists of names for all sorts of categories are very helpful, the exceptions are the lists of most popular names. The tips on how to name a baby and how names shape our lives was not very helpful either. This is a good book for names, merely because of the size of the book and number of names contained within the book. You may be overwhelmed when looking through the book and trying to come up with specific names. All of the names are presented alphabetically with ethnicity, definition and related spellings. It may have been more helpful to have some historical references on how different ethnicities give names to children, but for sheer volume this book has about the most names. It is helpful to get your mind going, but it may make it a little more difficult to make the final decision as you will come up with many baby names.Read full review
This was a great baby name book, but it did not have the boy names I have picked out in it (I bought the book to see what the names meant). It did have the girl names however! And it does have tons of names to pick from (from crazy names to traditional names). I love the layout of the book!!! And now that I have my names picked, I passed the book on to my brother & his wife who just found out their expecting 2 months after my due date!
This book was horrible
