Product Information
This documentary of the early life of 90s grunge icon Kurt Cobain explores his troubled childhood and his reluctant rise to fame, which arrived with Nirvana's 1991 album NEVERMIND. Born in small-town Washington, his parents divorced when he was young. They found the creative, hyperactive Kurt to be impossible to live with, and sent him to live with relatives. His hyperactivity was treated with Ritalin, the side effects of which were counteracted with sedatives, and many believe this early use of pharmaceuticals was responsible in part for Kurt's later heroin addiction and chronic health problems. He grew up a music fan, and dropped out of high school weeks before graduating in order to start a band, which eventually became the mouthpiece of a generation. Millions of teenagers found an expression of their own troubled thoughts and feelings in the poetic, angst-ridden lyrics and the haunting melodies Cobain crafted. Cobain's biographer, Charles Cross, provides insightful commentary that is fleshed out by interviews with relatives, friends, and band members, providing an in-depth look at the origins of a tragic genius.Product Identifiers
