Released soon after the system's launch, Ping Pals uses the Nintendo DS' wireless communication capabilities to support multiplayer mini-games and activities. Players create a custom avatar and can earn coins by chatting and playing games. Coins are used to buy accessories for the player's avatar character, and accessories can be traded between players. Some Ping Pals activities involve sending handwritten messages and drawings back and forth to other DS players. Multiplayer games include "Doodle" and "Hot Potato." The game also offers a "solo chat" mode, for times when other DS players are not available.
