Helpful with learning Java. Was using the web as a reference, but a reference book works better for me & helps me find info faster. Schildt has always written good programming books, and Oracle would seem to agree; they are the publisher.

it is very well written book, technically acceptable for a blue collar language like java, well documented author, right to the point. rarely i find some things which could be done with more talent (like not doing composition in runable implementators in the multi-threading chapter). it addresses the java beginner and perhaps intermediate wishing to familiarize with the language asap. from the typographical point of view, code examples cannot be easily pasted into a different place (ide editor buffer) and page end(s) sometimes break the last row in the middle.

The book is in a great shape, but the packaging might have been a bit harder. The book contents is great, helps me to prepare to OCA/OCP
