I loved this book. The detail was enough to project me back into my own summer experiences at my grandparent's children's camp on the water where I spent my summers, not too far away from the Cape. The author's descriptive writing made me feel that I was right there. I read the book in about a day, so quickly, that I want to read it again in a few months. If you like memoirs with a lot of detail and the lives of this family and their neighbor's on the Cape, you will enjoy this book.

If you've seen a grand old shore house and wondered about the people who own it, here's your chance to peek inside. This books offers a beautifully written journey through a writer's lifetime spent summering in a grand old, fading shore house in Cape Cod. George Howe Colt masterfully weaves together his own childhood memories, family history and legends with tender moments observing and enjoying his own children at their seaside birthright. Without even trying, this books quietly explores social differences and likenesses between generations and time. If you'd like to take a trip to Coastal New England, with an eloquent friend as a guide, the Big House is for you.

Two book groups I'm in read this book, and most people, including myself found it fascinating reviewing history of the development of Cape Cod and reliving the history of the extended families who spent their summers here for generations. I would highly recommend this book for a quick read and bit of American history.
Good book revisited my childhood transition to my adult life. It is also a good just for the read. It is well written and gives you a look at a specific more of that time.
