This is Laura Ingraham's year (pronounced `Ingram.') She is getting tremendously active political exposure on the Cable Network News spots as well as an incredible growth-base in her right-leaning radio program. What is she saying that has so many people interested in her opinions? What does she base this on? What are the ramifications of her oratory? She begins to explain the answers in her third book: "Power to the People." The essential crux of her point is that America is suffering deeply at the hands of those who have allowed the `pornification' of our society to exist. We've neglected to appreciate the sacrifices that accompany the concept of `freedom'. Ingraham says in the book: "Too often we have believed that "freedom" means that we have no duties or responsibilities to others. That "anything goes" mentality may appear to be empowering, but it is not. Instead, it creates a sense of anarchy that makes most Americans very unhappy." She details with an astonishing clarity, how and why the American family unit has been attacked (primarily by the left, in her view) and torn apart with values that no longer held a unit together, but rather, encouraged a person to act primarily in their own interest. Ingraham rails on the politicians who cannot keep up with trends and vote erroneously mostly out of ignorance of change and voting only within the partisan walls of their confines. She shows the inconsistencies of freedom of speech and the attempts of Left-leaning advocates to stymie the conservative voices on radio. In all, there are far too many topics for her to discuss in much detail, and it is possible to be overwhelmed by the torrent of information and opinion. Whether you agree with Laura Ingraham or not, it is critical that all people of all political viewpoints, constantly read both points of view and hopefully you can then make a serious opinion based both POV's. Laura has made a career out of studying her `enemy' to the right and spares no pen in detailing their faults. She writes: "We have a lot of work to do. We must shake off our lethargy and reconnect with our American heritage. What follows is a call to arms. We need to fight for our culture, for our country. We need to revive our understanding of traditional, conservative principles -- the true empowerment agenda." She encourages people to get off their duff, feel empowered, and with common sense, a decent moral compass, and due diligence conquer the inherent flaws in our society. I normally read books from both sides of the political aisle to enlighten myself on the arguments on both sides. I try to avoid the extremes on both sides like Bill O'Reilly and Ann Coultier on the Right and Michael Moore and Al Fraken on the Left, just because they are both filled with attacks and not "facts" and support for arguments. Having limited exposure to Laura before, I thought perhaps she would be provide some substance for me to absorb. I was wrong. It was filled with attacks and little "inside" jokes about the judicial system, the "bums" in Washington, racial innnuendo on immigration, and liberal Hollywood's "pornogrpahic" values. Laura's book could have been 100 pages shorter without the repetition of the same redudent theories and agruments for family values and another 50 pages shorter if all the attacks on the judicial system, media, Hollywood, and liberals in general were kept to the simple arguments. Parts of the book seems as if it were literally cut and pasted to another section of the book. Maybe she was paid by the page. If you are looking for some light reading in the bathroom, not requiring the strain of your brain, this is your book. If you want substance on conservative points of view and the support for the arguments, I would suggest Andrew Sullivan's "The Conservative Soul" or Christy Todd Whitman's book "It's My Party Too!". I found this book inspiring because she lays out the roadmap as to how everyone can get involved in stopping the slide of our culture into the godlessness, where it is currently heading. We are not as powerless as we are lead to believe. If everyone does their part, we can take America back. We do not need to sit on the sidelines and watch our country degrade itself into mediocrity, like the rest of the world. Also inspiring were the stories of her personal struggles that made her seem more human than some writers in this genre. I found it heartwarming. Since I never watch TV or listen to the radio, I have never been exposed to her. I bought her book because I read similar books in this genre. I must say, I will seek out her programs in the future.
Awesome, eye opening, a MUST read! Laura Ingraham puts it out there and tells it like it is. More people should love our country and citizens the way Laura does. Again, a MUST read!!
