Burroughs died in 1996 at about the same age, I believe. I happened upon him because of what I thought was a musical CD called "Dead City Radio". .Turns out that Picture on the CD of an old weatherbeaten haggard face, real-time thousand yard stare drew me in. The "music" was XLNT and the words . . .were spoken from Burroughs "books" by Burroughs himself. So I bought another CD "reading" of his called "Spare-Ass Annie". .and I was hooked. I had to read some of his books. His words, his books, the fact of his Harvard Education, "Junkie" who lived "in" and on the streets for decades .. his own vulnerability (hidden under rough musings about "gays" etc) and always always his clear view of his "times" in a living hell "Junky". His writing is rough, sparse, introspective, unique, haunting, stark, brilliant and gripping. . Yage I recommend AFTER reading any two other books of his. You'll end up with a collection you'll want to keep and share with only friends who really have shared the closest of secrets with each other. Burroughs leads one to many other writers of his Generations. Greatest respect, AndyRead full review
