This is a great book, The encyclopedia of Heirloom Christening Gowns that has good black and white illustrations to learn beginning french hand sewing by machine, lace shaping, hand embroidery, shadow embroidery, smocking,madeira applique,shark's teeth techniques,garment construction. There are black and white drawings of the baby gowns throughout the book and colored photos in the middle of the book that inspire. The new books include a pattern envelope with various patterns of the gowns illustrated in the book. Some used books do not always include the pattern in envelope, but the book itself has alot of information to use and there are different heirloom pattern companies that have various patterns to choose from that could be used using the techniques shown in the book.
