I "rent books" before I buy them: go to the library and check it out! I read through his recipes (check ingredients for hard to find, wierd combinations, etc). Of all the raw books I have check out: around 50, I found this book to be very concise, easy to follow and "clean" with his recipes. Yes, I did need to tweat a couple: "Fire Water", for example needed the fruit/beet to be juiced, otherwise it just turned out to be flavored water. BUT the end analysis of drinking it, once adapted: excellent! I have been a vegan for many years, sprouting, and all. The bottomline: This is a very simple, clear book and good tasting recipes. But it is a good idea to have: "Rawsome", "Living Cuisine", and Sprouting Book (Wigmore) in your midst as well. Also remember, resturant owners don't wash their own dishes! Rawing requires constant clean up if you make recipes, rather than salads. BTW having a Buyers Menu in the front is a big, big deal. So few Vegetarian books do it. So, I give it a big thumbs up!Read full review
I like the looks of this book. It is bright and cheerful, loaded with vivid photographs. I love the whole package. The recipes are divine, easy to follow, artfully instructed, and so good for you. I've only been cooking with this book for a few days(the set up took a bit longer), and already I feel so good. I can feel my body detoxifying and I even lost eight unwanted pounds, all while being given the knowledge of how to "uncook" the best and truly gourmet-tasting living foods. The flavors are very California, just what I needed to make raw fooding a possibility. This book is like a ray of sunshine on my pallid gray day. I dislike that I'm guessing a bit with bread storage. (I must say I also had a copy of Living Foods for Optimum Health to help me through sprouting and a couple of basic dehydrated cracker recipes.) If you like experimenting with new flavors and don't like bland, you are going to love this book. I've tried soup, cheeses and breads, and everything I've made so far has come out really well. There are so many different kinds of valuable recipes I think there would be somethings special for everyone. The recipes don't take a lot of time to make, but do require some patience, and a strong blender. I'm doing well with a 6 amp, a large capacity food processor, and a grinder. I thank Juliano, Erika Lenkert, and Regan books for sharing their wisdom and making this book available. I bought it because I have to return a copy to the library. :)Read full review
This book is phenomenal!!! If you want to eat the healthiest gourmet veggie food possible...this is it! Live foods is full of health giving enzymes and nutrients which are usually destroyed when food is cooked. You will find that by eating a majority of your foods in the live state you can reach your optimal weight while delighting your taste buds. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is chronically ill or just wants to improve their health...and life! I bought 2 of them. It makes a great gift and the best part is that not only is a stove not neccessary, you don't even need to know how to cook. Lets help save the planet by adopting a vegitarian diet, using less energy, and thereby not being as much of a contributor to global warming. We can all reduce our ecological footprint!! :)
This is a great "Uncookbook"! Though a few of the recipes are useless (put avocado onto slices of 'Real Toast' and eat - seriously, that is a recipe worth including?), most are great and will definitely keep you busy in the kitchen with a plethora of exciting recipes to create. The recipes are easy to follow and fun to tweak depending on available ingredients or tastes. Great for people who love to cook and/or are new to the Raw Foods lifestyle.
I love the hard cover and the book looks new. Lots of great recipes in it.
