This is the now-classic collection of Russian fairy tales. Afanasyev was one of the pioneers in collecting Russian folk tales and fairy tales. The illustrations are excellent, reminiscent of wood-cuts and Russian folk art.

Only bought book because it was required of me to fulfill a Russian Fairy Tales course that I am taking. Although most of the fairy tales were somewhat weird they helped me to understand Russian culture more.
