This is an excellent review of the Gilded Era, concentrating on John D. Rockefeller. Chernow gives a detailed history of the Titan, citing his many trials as a child, giving insight to his personality, and his need to succeed. However one feels about his methods of building his empire, one can understand his fervent religious beliefs, and his unsparing dedication to his family, his church, and his ability to explore new ways to enlarge his empire, and his dedication to the responsibility to then give away his millions. A very thoughtful analysis of the personality in the context of the era in which he lived. I think this would be a book all would find impossible to put down.
Interesting and detailed about the life of John Rockefeller. Ron Chernow always brings his subject to life. I have read his George Washington and his Alexander Hamilton and this one is following in the same footsteps as his writing of the others. However, I wish Mr. Chernow would not repeat himself as much as he does in each book.
