I decided to buy this album for the simple fact that tricky used to be apart of one my favorite groups, Massive attack. However, this album is more rock friendly than his first album Maxinque which sounded more electronic/trip hop. It seems tricky has a tendency to over do small details; like having the same singer on the majority of the tracks. The most featured singer on BlowBack is the Reggae singer Hawkman. His voice is something your either going to like or hate. If you have watched any of Tricky's interviews then you would be aware that he is in a PUNK rocker state of mind. His albums are supposed to be anti-conformity. This is one thing I like about the album, it's does it own thing from the vocal sound to the musical timing. The album is good if your looking for a punk/reggae/with a taste of trip hop. This album isn't as catchy or hypnotic as Maxinque but that came out in 95 and it was just a different vibe back then. Tricky comes from Massive Attack and whether he likes it or not he took that gradual style of slowly building the climax feel. This album will slowly grow on you. To close this up, if your a fan of Tricky's work(the majority if which he makes himself) and your looking for something that is a mixture of genres and has it own vibe this album is for you.Read full review
