About this product

Product Information

Pasolini wrote, directed and stars in this richly textured epic based on eight tales by 14th-century Italian writer Giovanni Boccaccio. Pasolini weaves the stories together into a bawdy tapestry of a medieval Italy populated by artists, priests and magicians. Appearing in the role of the great pre-Renaissance painter Giotto, Pasolini guides the viewer through a cinematic landscape ripe with sensuality and irreverent humor. First in Pasolini's "Trilogy of Life," which also includes THE ARABIAN NIGHTS and THE CANTERBURY TALES. Originally rated X by the Motion Picture Association of America.

  • Bawdy Adult Entertainment

The only reason I gave "The Decameron" a 4-Star rating is that it is 199.999% Adults-Only entertainment. If you know anything about Boccaccio's collection of bawdy Italian tales, then you know that they are intended for Mature Audiences Only. Please do not attempt to watch the film with children in the audience. Boccaccio was a trendsetter in vernacular -- as opposed to Latin-language -- literature, and his compendium of stories strongly influenced Geoffrey Chaucer's Middle-English "Canterbury Tales," which also contains bawdy tales such as "The Miller's Tale" and "The Reeve's Tale."
