I laughed at this silent Charlie Chaplin flick. And it reminded me of my own grandfather who ran away from his Boston home at 14 to seek his fortune in the Alaskan gold rush. He never made it to Alaska but with his adventurous spirit was one of the very first aviators and became a World War I flight trainer. Them raised two sons that flew over 100 combined missions against the Nazis. He had lead my family to do more damage against real fascism than the atomic bomb. Funny how that seemed more profitable than the GOLD RUSH.

I have seen both versions of this film several times and it always holds up. I bid on this DVD version for the quality of the dubbing and the extra features that came with it. This entire series of related Chaplin DVDs are a wonderful tribute and presentation of his true greatness as a filmmaker and comedian. Al Bohl

For a newbie to the Chaplin world this is the best one to start with. You can't go wrong. Chaplin just makes you laugh in each moment. Since then I have bought all the full length movies. Can't wait to get a great collection of all his shorts. :)
A classic silent comedy from the master of silent comedy films. The little Tramp keeps you laughing with his innocent antics and the whole cast is so much more animated and expressive than the present day casts. I love the scene where Big Jack and the little Tramp are sitting down to eat their Thanksgiving meal. W
