A Fascinating, Bizarre and Largely Ignored Film
Winter Kills is a satire on the JFK assassination theories, a weird concept to begin with, and as you watch it (sometimes with mouth agape!) you think how weird it is that someone is mocking Joe Kennedy, the millionaire father of John and Robert and Ted--and that someone is not only the director of the film, but John Huston as an actor, playing a power-mad, ruthlessly coy manipulator. The hero of the film is a very young Jeff Bridges, essaying the brother of a murdered president (Bridges jumping into the role right after his triumph in Bogdanovich's brilliant Last Picture Show. The release of this biting satire based on a Richard Condon conspiracy book (he also wrote Manchurian Candidate) was soft-pedaled by the studio, took far too long to complete (for financial reasons) but is worth watching merely for the dazzling appearances of Bridges, Eli Wallach, Anthony Perkins, Dorothy Malone--and even, briefly, Toshiro Mifune and Elizabeth Taylor.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

A very rare film on DVD with a steller cast but not edge of seat thrills. Still a great find though and excellent quality.
