An avalanche of fun
You have to like these sort of goofy American teen surf comedies to get anything from these. It they’re good examples of both. Ski Party is the more mainstream of the two. It’s basically Some Like It Hot on Skies. They even name check that film as it’s so blatant. Two guys dress as girls so they can get closer to an all-girl ski school in Idaho. It’s very tame with songs, innocent pranks and speeded up footage. It’s not even all that dated, the girls have decent characters and aren’t just there as eye candy - there is dancing in bikinis but the guys are in trunks, too, so it’s fairly equal. Although it’s about guys trying to get with girls, the most they can hope for is a kiss as, by admission, even they don’t know what happens next so it’s no more than a PG. James Brown randomly appears and sings I Got You (I Feel Good) and it has the debut of of Lesley Gore’s hit Sunshine, Lollipops, and Rainbows. The anamorphic widescreen print looks lovely and the mountain locations look incredible.
