Everyone is getting their Valentine cards. Everyone, but Charlie Brown, that is. There is plenty of old fashioned wisdom in this animated feature. "The amount of money you spend on a present is in direct proportion to the amount of affection you have for that person." That is according to Linus. Or, "Sometimes when you really like someone, a homemade Valentine is really special." Sally tires to make her own card but isn't too successful, even with the help of Charlie Brown and Snoopy. Of course, they bring in their Valentine cards into school and at the party everyone gets cards but Charlie Brown. You will love how Sally has such a hard time reading her tiny Valentine candy heart that kids get during the holliday. As it goes, Linus has a hard time getting the candy he bought for his teacher to her but Snoopy and Woodstock reap the rewards. This is maybe not quite as good as Charlie Brown Christmas, but it is pretty good nonetheless. It has it all; high expectations, anticipation, disappointment, and then finally the ability of Charlie Brown to take something positive from the experience. A good animated feature for the kids in the family. There are two additional bonus features, the first is: IT'S YOUR FIRST KISS CHARLIE BROWN. Charlie Brown is the escort for the Homecoming Queen, and then he finds out who she is; "The Little Red Haired Girl." Not only that, be he learns that he has to escort her to the middle of the dance floor and give her a kiss. Good Grief! There is a football game before the dance with all the regulars; Peppermint Patty, Lucy, Snoopy (the referee) etc. Charlie Brown is the kicker and Lucy is the holder, so you know how that ends up. But Charlie does his best at the game and later at the dance. YOU'RE IN LOVE, CHARLIE BROWN It's the next to the last day of school and Charlie Brown decides that if he is meet the "Little Red Haired Girl" he has to make a move now. Linus tries to help out, but is not too successful, and of course Lucy and her girl friends aren't about to let him succeed either. There are some diversions, including a visit to the Psychologist (Lucy), but that doesn't work. So on the last day of school Charlie is determined to meet her, no matter what. He finally finds out that the best way is to be yourself and not try to be something you are not. The bonus features are enjoyable and entertaining in themselves. They are typical "Peanuts" gang material. They are not, however, particularly special. The main feature, "Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown" is worth getting, just by itself.Read full review
This is very entertaining classic, similar to an another, older one called "A Charlie Brown Valentine". This one has two bonus mini-features called "You're in Love, Charlie Brown" and "It's Your First Kiss, Charlie Brown". In the second bonus feature something revolutionary occurs, because Charlie Brown actually meets the Little Red Haired Girl and gives her a kiss, a transcendental experience for him and one that has to be seen to be believed. This is highly recommended if you haven't seen it.
