I bought this movie a month ago and was impressed with actors and the background in the world of bicycling in China. I liked the world of bicycles as transportation, not autos. I'd like to see what kind[s] of bicycles everyday people use as daily transportation in China. My complaint is about who really stole Guie's new Merida mountain bike. I'm also impressed how parents show their emotions towards their children about stealing. Anyway, I'm a bike enthusiast, and recommend the movie.
I thought the movie was great (I may be a bit biased, however, because I am an Chinese undergrad) and is a good representation of Chinese culture, and cinema. Be aware that the movie is in Mandarin Chinese (Beijing) with English subtitles. I would recommend this movie to anyone who has the slightest interest in Chinese culture, social issues (rural vs. urban), or anyone who is looking for a look into the Chinese culture from the perspective of the proletariat class.
The single most depressing pointless movie ever. Ever. The pointless journey of a chinese kid and this bike. The bike only brings him misery and beatings. It's the single worst movie I've ever seen.
I saw this on the big screen when it first came out. It really shows how rough life can be, and how lucky we are in the USA. This is a must see movie.
