I purchased Jonah: A Veggie Tales Movie DVD because I am a Sunday School Teacher, and was teaching my kids about Jonah and his Big Fish. To wrap the whole thing up, I decided to show them that movie because many of my kids love Veggie Tales, and we were having a party to celebrate some accomplishments they had completed successfully. The only problem I had, was that the movie didn't dictate exactly what happened. And some of my kids had trouble when we went back and reviewed what happened in the Bible. They were answering questions based on the movie, and not the Bible. For example, When I mentioned the part about Jonah not following God's advise, and taking off in a boat, then falling asleep, some of the kids decided that they liked the Veggie Tales movie bit better, where there are a bunch of Pirates that were in the movie. We had to revisit the book again to be sure that the kids knew that there were no pirates in God's version. However, it was great fun to watch, and the kids loved it! Thank you!Read full review
It's a new spin on a Bible story with a surprise twist so that children can understand the story easier apart from Bible terminology. The characters are funny and engaging.

Veggie Tales has always provided good quality family entertainment for people of all ages. Their motto: "Sunday morning values, Saturday morning fun". They have lived up to this standard for a number of years. In 2002, they ventured forth into a whole new direction and made a successful jump to the big screen, by releasing their very first full-length feature film, "Jonah, A Veggie Tales Movie". This film adaptation about GOD's prophet Jonah is cleverly produced and superbly presented in a way that can appeal to everybody. Starting out interestingly enough with a group of vegetables going to the Twippo concert, their van crashes. They go to a seafood restaurant, where they meet the Pirates Who Don't Do Anything. They tell the stranded group about Jonah and his experiences, including being swallowed by a whale. In the end, they learn an important lesson about compassion and mercy, discovering that the two go hand-in-hand. Twippo makes a surprise appearance at the seafood restaurant, where he performs a song with the Pirates singing back-up. Overall, this is a very entertaining movie. With Veggie Tale favorites like Bob the Tomato, Larry the Cucumber and Archibald the Asparagus in the many varied roles, this is one film you won't want to miss. And, be sure to catch the hilarious outtakes showing the cast goofing it up in never-before-seen bloopers.Read full review
I know this review is in the minority, but personally I totally avoid Veggie Tales for my kids. I don't mind a bunch of nonsense so much with non-biblical topics, but I find it hard to believe that Jesus would sanction this foolishness. I tend to think that right after he drove the moneychangers out of the temple, he would have turned on Veggie Tales. The product of a big company's hype and media blitz, the whole thing makes God's words into a big joke. Silly vegetables who act like fools - is this really the impression we want to give children? Veggie Tales is irreverent, even blasphemous, foolishness. Christians are instructed to raise wise, sober children with a deep fear, awe, and respect for God. Parents, do you really think more pandering to childish silliness will produce this? Let the kids watch Bugs Bunny for a good laugh - Veggie Tales belongs in the trash.Read full review
All of the Veggie Tale Moives are most excellent for all ages. They are entertaining but mostly they are "safe' to watch for children. No violence, good healthy teaching, life lessons and how to get along, no sex, no adult content yet are filled with content good for being a good adult. Most childrens titles today are adult trash in childish format. Not so with veggie tales. These are morally and spiritually worthy of watching and application across the generations.
