I bought this cd as a companion to the first Bill Evans cd, "Sunday at the Village Vanguard". I was throughly impressed with the later cd and am equally impressed if not more so with this one. This version of cd itself has bonus tracks with alternate takes from later that day. It really shows as it says in the liner notes, how tight this trio was and cohesive they played together. Paul Motain, Scott Lafaro and Evans have crisp, clean and sometimes haunting solos throughout. Standout tracks include "Milestones"(a take on the Miles Davis song) and "My Foolish Heart". I highly recommend this to seasoned jazz fans or to those just getting into the music. Simply to hear these three musicians play so briefly and well together is reason enough though. Just make sure you get this version for it's alternate takes.Read full review
Excellent music title selections for relaxing. Yet, so much of Bill's music concept is in it. I bought it because I wanted to listen particularly "My Foolish Heart". He plays it beautifully. I listen it over and over but I never get enough of it. :D
The first time I heard this album was in the mid 60's. I never got it's name then and heard it the other day on the Daily CD newsletter I get - what a wonderful audio homecoming that was. I used to listen to my friend practice his bass to this album.
There is something about the Bill Evans Trio that says "Sit down, relax and feel the music." This is some of the best of the early days of cool jazz. Sit down, relax and feel the music!
