I remembered seeing this film many years ago and liked it very much. Since it's never on cable or televison, I decided to buy the dvd. It's a very 80s movie as far as style, music, etc, but a well done thriller that is above B-movie status in my opinion. Steven Bauer is very good as always and David Caruso shows up as his partner in crime, literally. He is also quite convincing. The object of Bauer's affection, Barbara Williams, is quite likeable, though I've never seen her in anything else, unfortunately. I would highly recommend this movie. It's romantic and entertaining and something different. You probably won't see it pop up on tv anytime soon as I never have in the twenty-five years since its release.
Careful what you wish for... Ray Davis is a nationally renowned author of children's books. Mickey, his wife, is also a proficient writer, but without an audience. She would prefer it that way, especially since he has no interest in anything about her. But she can't stop Scott from breaking-in and stealing $100,000 in paintings and ceramic arts, the "family jewels", and a poster-sized photo of her which instantly captivates him. The "jewels" are her locked-up diaries in which she recorded all the details about her fantasy man, who is everything her husband is not. Scott begins to stalk Mickey, and when he finally encounters her, adheres to her script. She finds him irresistible, without realizing he is the thief the police can't find, as he steps-out of the pages of her books and becomes the man she thought she couldn't have. The movie asks the standard question often found in literature: Why is their marriage failing? And it gives the standard answer; communication. But the story attempts to "point" to new approaches to new answers suggesting that even Mickey may not know what she wants in bed, despite her written description in graphic detail. Masterfully acted by stars who appear to feel the pain of all the characters they portray, "Thief of Hearts" is a must-see DVD.Read full review
i like the way the main actor in the movie was slick in his style of seducing the women who was writing her nightly journal about her failing marriage and her sexual or intimate fantasies. this is not a pornographic movie by any sense of the imagination, although there is a pretty intense love scene. i havn't seen this movie since the late 80's mid 80's??? all i remember is that the main actor was alot like myself. he had a romantic, sexual seducing side 2 him, but also a bad boy side as well. the end of the movie is best when she has a chance 2 have the cops arrest him or shoot him i can't remember now, but do 2 him fullfilling all her fantasies and there breathtaking lovemaking adventure and him seducing her in just the right way she lets him go free. i bought this movie for my nurses best friend because she knows my romantic nature. she loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Read full review
