DARK SHADOWS...I still remember as a ten year old boy rushing home from school as quickly as I could to return to the shadows...DARK SHADOWS. Every afternoon at 4pm the shadows of Collinwood crept into the living rooms of America...and were filled with vampires, ghosts, werewolves, time travel and wonderful mystery. Today, as DARK SHADOWS nears its 40th anniversary, it continues to have a huge cult following. Now released to DVD with 40 episodes per set, DARK SHADOWS is the most extensive DVD series ever compiled, with over 300,000 box sets sold. Only one set remains to be released, with 24 sets currently available. The incredible popularity of this classic show is a testimony to the vision of its groundbreaking producer, the legendary Dan Curtis. In addition to DARK SHADOWS, Dan produced two of the most ambitious mini-series ever brought to television: THE WINDS OF WAR and WAR AND REMEMBRANCE. He produced many other highly successful TV and film productions, including the hugely popular KOLCHAK movies, BURNT OFFERINGS, HOUSE OF DARK SHADOWS, NIGHT OF DARK SHADOWS, DRACULA with Jack Palance, the 1991 DARK SHADOWS REVIVAL SERIES, TRILOGY OF TERROR, and many others. Most recently in 2005, Dan produced SAVING MILLY and OUR FATHERS. Dan Curtis, lost his battle with brain cancer on March 27th, 2006, at his home in Brentwood California. Only three weeks before, Dan lost his wife of 54 years, Norma, to a heart attack. We focus the Movie Magic USA spotlight on honoring Dan Curtis by reviewing DARK SHADOWS COLLECTION 3. This was my favorite period of Dark Shadows, when Barnabas first arrived on the scene. I believe many of the Black & White shows are far superior to those color ones produced later. They seemed more ominous, more frightening. In this period, the character of Barnabas was most interesting, and the stories exceptionally well-written. As a ten year old, I could not wait for the next episode of DARK SHADOWS each weekday afternoon. As a 48 year old man, I can't wait to put the disc in my DVD player and return to the shadows of Collinwood. I am currently watching Set 17, episode 877. It is because of a hard-charging television pioneer named Dan Curtis that I still look forward, 39 years later, to returning to Collinwood for my daily dose of vampires, werewolves and fog-shrouded mystery. DARK SHADOWS is a one of a kind classic never to be duplicated, and so is its producer. He took us into the shadows of Collinwood, and we will never forget the wonder that awaited us there. God Bless you Dan and Norma. Steven Holt Movie Magic USARead full review
Another "fix" for Dark Shadows fans - 40 episodes and additional interviews of the cast from the original 1960's series. In this collection, we meet Dr. Julia Hoffman, who is intrigued by Barnabas' affliction, and "dying" to help him out, despite his moodiness and constant threats on her life. Julia is charmed by the 175 year old vampire with impeccable manners and style. We also see a good deal of Sara, David Collins' mysterious "friend". David learns the truth about Barnabas from Sara, but the rest of the cast then tries to prove he's imagined it all, including the existence of Sara. Willie Loomis is shot while trying to break into Maggie's home, and blamed for the previous attacks on her. A must for Dark Shadows fans, and those who can appreciate dark drama, like Twin Peaks. It's great if you can start at the beginning of the series and watch it through, but it's still great if you pick it up and back track, too.Read full review
Brand new - excellent! This is a 'must have' for the Dark Shadows/Barnabas fan. Watch all the camp, cool vamp stuff as often as you like and when you please and celebrate 40+ years of growing popularity of the most sinister and delightful of all soaps. Jonathon Frid is the longest-running vampire on screen or TV and put this series on the map in a big way - his countish image gives the big screen vampires a run for the money - and they did this 5 days a week, live! Enduring work by Joan Bennett and others builds the perfect backdrop for the shadowy comings and goings and doings around Collinwood and Collinsport. Enjoy!
The FIRST OFFICIAL VAMPIRE SOAP OPERA just keeps getting better and better. Actually, Collection 3 is full steam ahead with Barnabas Collins on the warpath vowing to eliminate anyone who threatens his true identity. Subsequently, you have a series of highly entertaining if not chilling confrontations and situations in his creepy mansion and neighboring cemetery. Lots of fun and memories (if you are old enough) with several cast member interviews.

The dvds 1-5 which I have watched are very good & keeps you wanting the next dvds, it would be good if any sellers could offer bundles of dvds, for example buy set of collection needed next in the series of dark shadows. I would recommend watching them, I can't wait to buy my next collection.
