I remember watching this when it used to be played on TBS. Glad to make it a permanent part of my DVD collection. I really loved the the scenes vs Medusa and the scorpions. A very good cast including Burgess Meredith. A good choice for classic adventure or Greek Mythology fans.

This film is a lot better than the remake a few years ago. Maybe because good friend Ray Harryhausen worked on the original. He was a great friend & a genius.

This film is a real joy to watch; pure imaginative escapicism in the styles of the old Sinbad and Hercules movies from the past. The story centers around Persus, son of Zeus and his many challenges rising from jealous Hera and numerous monsters along the way. Harry Hamlin keeps it grounded as a young niave hero, Burguess Meredith plays the mentor role and we are treated to a calidescope of mythical creatures along the way. We meet the Kraken, Pegasus, oracles, giant scorpions, Medusa and witness Persus rise to one challenge after another thrown at him. It has a love story of sorts for the girls and some duels for the fellas all thrown in for a brisk paced movie. ***Warning to kids the Medusa scene could freak them out a bit, but shouldn't be too bad; Parents should watch for mild nudity near the beginning of a nursing mother and towards the end as the princess baths before her trip to see the Kraken, but otherwise this film should entertain safely. The script runs along not taking itself to seriously or to lightly; striking a nice balance similiar to the Hercules/Xena tv shows of the 90s for comparison. The action scenes seem dated now, but with some imagination and a forgiving eye towards the stop motion techniques used it delievers a fun mindless romp with Greek mythology. It is an underated gem that should be checked out before dismissing as it offers a lot more than one would give it credit for.Read full review
I remember this movie from when I was a kid. I used to watch it every time it came on network tv. Something reminded me of it and I had to buy it. However I did not realize that there was nudity in this movie. The mother bares here breasts in the first 12 minutes and her butt right after. Not that it bothered me but made it so my kids could not enjoy something from my youth. They are still young and I do not approve of them seeing such things. So be advised it has t&a but it is still a classic. Special effects are kinda amusing but when you think about how long ago they were made, they are pretty sweet. All in all I am quite pleased. Just wasn't expecting the boobs to pop on the screen when they did. Other than that a must see. I hope the 2010 addition does it justice.
This is a fun movie loosely based on Greek Mythology. The gods of Mount Olympus routinely interfere with human affairs due to their whims, grudges with each other and love affairs with human women. In this movie Perseus, played by Harry Hamlin, has to go on a quest to save the life of a princess, who happens to be his future wife. He encounters giant animals, witches, a mechanical golden plated owl, a half man/half demon, Pegasus, a flying horse, Medusa, The Kraken and other challenges.
