perfect 1960's Jingoism and a fitting tribute
This album, produced in 1966, is a perfect glimpse into some of the thinking of the day -- it comes frum a moment when much of the country believed what people like Robert MacNamara were saying : that if we failed in Vietnam, if Vietnam fell to communism, all of Asia would follow. Forty one years after the fall of Saigon, most of Asia is not communist, Vietnam is a significant trading and manufacturing partner, China has most favored nation status (in spite of the fact that they keep hacking our businesses) and life goes on. Sadler was a true believer, and it comes forth in the songs on this album. And that is precisely where the album works. Sadler's singing ability is marginal, leaning heavily on sprechgesang form, and wobbling uneasily on the rythmic end of thing. But his love of country, of service, and of the men with whom he served comes shining through, and makes the whole thing a charming, if dated, window on an era.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned
