*** This comment may contain spoilers *** I can't believe somebody called this film a "Terrorist Musical" I mean come on! when will people grow up? Or better yet when will people stop being ignorant? Just because a film has singing and dancing in it doesn't make it a musical. Chicago, Phantom of the Opera, those were musicals. Mission Kashmir is not. :-( Anyways, the film revolves around man, SSP Inayat Khan (played by Sanjay Dutt), whose son falls out of a window while under the watch of his wife (played by Sonali Kurkani) and is seriously injured, frantically they both try to save the boy's life by looking for a doctor all through the city but none can be found and those they did actually find were unwilling to operate on the child due to a gag that has been imposed on them by a terrorist leader (played by Jackie Schroff). Eventually, Khan is able to pressure some doctors into breaking the gag and operating on his son but it's too late. The son dies and the family is shattered. A few weeks later, Khan sets up a ploy to bring down the terrorist leader but it goes horribly wrong when the family that is forced to host the terrorist is horribly murdered and most of the terrorists escape, including the leader. Before leaving defeated, Khan finds a little boy hiding behind a curtain, the lone survivor from the bust and takes the child with him. He brings the child home to his wife and they both agree to adopt him, nurture him and bring him back from his shock. This boy soon discovers that his new father is the one responsible for the death of his family and runs away from home. While in the streets of Kashmir, he falls into the wrong hands and is adopted by the terrorist leader. The boy, named Altaaf, grows up to be played by the genetic lottery winner known as Hrithik Roshan. The film now develops into the game of the angry young man seeking revenge and the sorrowful father bent on trying to stop him from destroying himself, his country and the very memory of those he loved and lost.Read full review
While there are some really strange leaps within the story, and the way the music and songs fit might baffle many people who are not familiar with Bollywood, this is a Bollywood treatment of the theme, and needs to be judged that way, not as something it is not. Better shot, better written, and better in terms of acting than most Bollywood, this is a very watchable story, well worth it, and it has good English subtitles, something that is a problem for many Bollywood movies, so if you only speak English it still makes sense. .
Direction, casting, story, songs - superb job in all departments. Hrithik Roshan does good job as kid torn between love and revenge. But Sanjay Dutt surprizes you in this small but effective role. Preity Zinta ipmresses too. Music by Shankay-Ehsaan-Loy stands out among today's Bollywood music.
Purchased this movie because we love Hrithik Roshan in any role. I'm rating this movie good vs excellent only because he was the bad guy but still really enjoyed this movie. If you like Bollywood films then I think you'll enjoy this one.
