Phillip Seymour Hoffman is brilliantly funny and magnetic as he dominates this film which stars Robert DiNiro. Hoffman plays a gay transvestite female impersonator who provides singing lessons for a stroke victim who is a homophobic right wing ex cop. The grudging teaching relationship tuens into something else and the transition by DiNiro as the stroke victim, is done only as Diniro could. Produced also by DiNiro and his company Tribeca. This little known film is not to be missed.
I actually bought this to replace a library copy that became damaged. It's a great movie that deals with diversity. Deniro plays a 'rough' guy who has issues dealing with Hoffman's drag queen character. Two fine performances.
All this film demonstrates is the range of acting by DeNiro and Hoffman. The story itself isin't worth the the time or effort if any, that went into its production. It is way beneath the capablity of its two stars. The story is unimaginative, predictable and lacks any definative message. As they say, "4gettaboutit."
