Well-done & Comical
This movie is so much fun. The storyline flows smoothly from one situation to another. Even tho Bette Midler is a scene-stealer (IMHO) Diane Keaton steals this movie. She stands out. But Goldie Hawn is no slouch. The cameos were fun to see, from Rob Refiner to the late Ivana Trump. This movie is fun to watch. First Wives Club will leave you wondering if you should stop after marrying once.
Considering the date this was filmed, it remains an excellent female revenge film with some of my favorite actresses. Bette Midler takes her rightful spot as the female war pack gears up to use their diverse skills in diabolical plotting. Their ex spouses all survive, but barely. Three divorcing wives lose a best friend to suicide. When reunited at the funeral they find themselves reminiscing. All three eventually find out they’re divorcing their husbands. Once the ladies start growing close they get a game plan for each husband due to the fact all three divorcing men had somehow wronged them during or after the divorce. One is a self indulged movie star with lots of money. She had married her producer to find it was only for her status. Once she wasn’t a big star anymore. He left, dating younger woman and gaining the business they started together. The other a wife of a man that owns his own appliance store. Leaving saying she was boring. He starts dating a young Sarah Jessica Parker feeding her expensive gifts while leaving her and her son struggling. The other lady is a stay at home mom that has self esteem issues and allows her husband to keep using her, leading her on while dating the therapist she paid to save their marriage. All woman combine between them they have funds, a workshop, and a plan. They get even while making a name for themselves as independent woman. Finding dirt on each ex to get what they need to blackmail them so they can Open a business (in honor of their friend whom committed suicide) for helping batter, suicide woman. The story line is hilarious. Watching them, and their growth, strength, the beauty of friendship and how life shouldn’t get in the way of sisterhood. The scandals will have you rolling on the floor.
