This movie has received a number of less-than-flattering reviews since its original release; however, I found it an intriguing, interesting psychological murder thriller, with its deceitful, murderous characters well-acting thru a well-scripted plot. Visible and verbal clues as to the characters' personalities and motives are revealed sparingly and subtly, forcing the viewer to pay attention to the film. Michael Douglas is, as usual, awesome in his role as a shady, unscrupulous market trader; Gwyneth Paltrow, as the adultrous, rich, U.N. translator, gives evidence that she can actually act; Viggo Mortensen, the only weak member of the three major characters, is at least eye-candy (and who, I've read, actually did the artwork in his artist character's portfolio). It's a fun movie to re-watch peridically to enjoy its evil plottings, double-crosses, and other nerfariousnesses.Read full review
