Price was good, and Depeche Mode's Ultra is arguably one of the best of their many "techno-pop" music CDs, perhaps exceeded by Exciter only. David Gahan's unique, authoritarian voice pares admirably with all instruments and tempo speeds to deliver one memorable tune after another. Not two songs, but the whole CD is crammed with great hits.

This is David Gahan coming out of his heroin addiction after almost dying in 1997 and you can really see and hear the things this man was going through if you listen to Songs Of Faith And Devotion and then consecutively ULTRA - an album made without the mastermind behind most of Depeche, - Alan Wilder. Dave shook his heroin addiction nonetheless. They had to record some of this syllable by syllable - it's haunting and Barrel of A Gun is one of my favorite songs ever. Gahan and Gore really get to show you who they are as vocalist/showman and songwriter/musicmaker, respectively. They had a lot of help from other musicians and outer sources, and it was doubted this album would ever come to be because they thought David Gahan was not going to make it.

With the exception of the song "House" Ultra is a very good album and I enjoy it a lot. It's dark and has a lo fi electronic sound to it. The instrumental "Jazz Thieves" is truly a masterpiece and reminds me of bands like The Residents or The Radiant Dregs. Probably not the best Depeche Mode CD but it is enjoyable. 4 Stars.
Great Classic, one of the greatest Depeche Mode albums! Many thanks 🙂

There is not much that Depeche Mode has done that I did not like. Another great album. If you are a new fan (or old), this is highly recommended.
