Mel Gibson does an excellent job on both sides of the camera in this movie. The scenery is wonderful. The performances were terrific. To me, this movie seemed very real - it made me feel like I was watching what really happened with William Wallace rather than just seeing a movie. The battle scenes were awesome - they got the point across about how horrible it was without resorting to too much blood and guts. The story was interesting and full of suprises and best of all, it was based on a real life hero. Braveheart ranks up there as one of the best movies I have ever seen.
There are several reasons why I enjoyed this DVD. First, and most importantly, it is reflective of rich Scottish history and so it is a grounds for education. Second, it demonstrates all aspects of war and shows the advantages and disadvantages of being a leader. Third, some people might find the graphic nature of this DVD to be offensive, but I believe it was very helpful in illustrating a true war from that time. When comparing this DVD to others of a similar category, Braveheart outranks them all because of its stunning ability to put the viewer in the position of the main character. Anyone viewing this DVD will be able to feel, in a sense, what it was like to live the life of William Wallace. I would highly recommend this DVD to anyone who has an interest in Scottish history, the art of warfare, or even a simple love story.Read full review
I would watch this again and again it is a great movie and I feel it will be around for a long time to come. It was really bloody but that is the way it was back in those days. The story was great and needed to be told! My mother has a letter from one of her great-great Aunts that told a story very much the same about her family The Wallace's that had been handed down. I felt a little ownership in the story. I was glad to see a movie was made about it. Thanks, Brenda
"Every man dies, not every man really lives." Mel Gibson delivers the romantic, rousing epic story of the heroic Scotsman William Wallace. Beautiful imagery and passion feul this inpsirational film, while emotionally nuanced performances from supporting cast members--especially Angus McFayden as Robert the Bruce--touch on the deeper struggles within us all.
