A listen in on Bill unaware he's being recorded
I had the good fortune to have spent hours of my childhood and adolescence at the Village Vanguard listening to Bill and his various trios. These recordings bring back precious memories. Though they are not studio quality and should not be expected to be, they are the most rare of recordings - Bill at his most relaxed and spontaneous on his home turf (the Vanguard really was his home). Bill put in hours and hours of preparation for his studio recordings, spontaneous though they sound. At the Vanguard he took risks and played in a manner that he very rarely did in the studio. I've heard most of his catalog, and was delighted to hear him play his familiar repertoire (as well as tunes you won't hear on any other albums) in new ways. For the truest of Bill Evans fans, this collection is pure gold (and you'll know you're a "true" fan if the limitations of the recordings don't bother you in the slightest).Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned
