Kevin Cline and gorgeous Sigourney Weaver lead the seriously multi talented cast in this wonderfully funny and delicious spoof on life in the White House. Dave is an all-around good guy who runs an employment agency by day, and moonlights as a presidential impersonator for events and grand openings. He looks amazingly like the President, and is like him in every way but one...Dave is honest, caring, has a great sense of humor and of honor. Discovered by the President's advisors, and utilized as a 'cover' when the Pres decides to spend a night in hot pursuit of one of his aides, Dave is recruited instantly when the Pres has a severe stroke while having said fling with his aide, and innocent Dave is now sitting in the Oval Office, doing his best to help out. With a super-villainous Presidential advisor who plans to get rid of the "boy scout" VP and then get rid of his unwary pawn (Dave) so that he can wangle himself into the White House and continue his finagling and thieving, the plot thickens and become hilariously twisted. First Lady Sigourney Weaver realizes that the man in the Oval Office is just too good to be true...and once she pegs him, and forces him to show her where her "real" husband is, Dave thinks the cat is out of the bag. Until the First Lady and the First Imitator decide to run a cross scam on the vicious advisor, and try to do some good while they can. I loved this movie. Cline is a consummate actor, and together with Weaver and a fabulous cast, he walks off with the election, as far as I am concerned. A wonderful, warm, funny comedy about ethics and values, with a superlative supporting cast! Highly recommended!Read full review
I like movies in which good triumphs definitively over evil. If there are unusual plot twists and situations in the process, so much the better. Dave is one of those movies. The plot in brief: a good-hearted man is asked to be a body double for the President of the USA. When the President has a catastrophic stroke, Dave is persuaded to stay on by the Chief of Staff, who is just as secretly corrupt as the President. Dave, however, catches on to the CoS's tricks, and he refuses to go along with them. Meanwhile, the President's wife--in name only--comes to realize that Dave is not her husband, but a man she could love, and Dave's warm and human compassion for her is very real. The plot unfolds and comes to its denouement, and in the end, every question is answered and every plot resolved. So much viewing material on TV and in the movies is full of fear-producing situations, not to mention anger, violence, and eroding human values. I'm glad to have a movie that goes in the other direction. They are few and far between.Read full review
A poignent story of an actor with high moral standards who doubles for the President of the United States, a selfisdh and immoral person. During his time as double Dave increases the strength of his position to a point where he is able to move the country forward. Dave is also able to re-eastablish a relationship with thePresident's wife. In the end the country is moved forward, the thefts and deceptions, and actions of the real polititians are made public, and I won't disclose the rest. I enjoyed the movies and rated it as a 5 on a scale of 5

I was driven to buy this DVD because of another Ebay purchase. I bought an antique wind up horse race game and in the movie Dave I heard Dave played with one. Indeed after watching the movie, he played with one exactly like the one I bought! So, One Ebay purchase took me to another AND, I made another purchase on Ebay because of this horse race game...an antique French postcard showing people around a huge horse race game. This postcard came from France of course.....AND, I bought another antique horse race game off of Ebay like the first one I bought and the one in the Movie Dave, so my friends, I bought 3 things from Ebay as a result of the original Ebay purchase. Am I done, don't know only time and Ebay will tell.....
Needed movie to show to seniors at activity center. Good movie, movie was in great shape. I dont have anything more to say about this, but I can ramble on to make one hundred characters show up, and then this will be passed on to the reviewers. what can you say about a movie? I could tell you the storyline, plot, or whatever, the characters, the intro, the middle and then the ending, but if you want to see the movie, learn for yourself what it is about. Now, have I written at least on hundred characters to make a review? Please tell me I have, as this is really ridiculous. You should be able to say what you want to say, in as many words as you need.
