This is clearly better than the theatrical edition. I've heard horror stories about highlander 2. while this is not nearly as good as the first movie, and the villain is a discount version of Kergen from the first movie, I still enjoyed this one. the plot is unique and if this movie didn't follow the first one, and the studio had let the director release the film that he wanted to, this movie probably would get a lot of love and have a niche audience. Chris Lambert is even more awesome as Macleod than before--if that were more possible, Sean was still fun, the leading actress was also exceptional and great, and the overall concept of the story was great. yet, due to the bad theatrical release that was due to studio interference, mingled with the fact that the villain was not as good as Clancy Brown's character, this movie will always get a bad rap. This sequal to the first Highlander movie uses an excellent cast and probably should have been the first in the series. The plot provided an excellent history into the immortal's origin. I found it entertaining however the writer went overboard with one scene concerning the villain's take over of a subway train which he caused the exceed the speed of sound. I found this ridicilous and should have been toned down as it detracted from the movie. The sets and the use of cars from the 1950's & 1960's gave the movie a Batman like feeling. They should have brought this up to date as the time line ranged from 1999 to 2029.
Just starting to watch the Highlander movies. I have not seen the original Highlander 2 but will do so to compare the two movies. IT is a remake of the original and it sure is quite different from the Highlander 1 but I did enjoy the movie though there is alot of GOREY parts to it. It is well worth the value and would recommend it as part of the Highlander collection.

The quickening is the follow up to the The HIGHLANDER it is the second of the series and true to form Russell Mulcahy uses a fantastic cast, Christopher lambert, plays Conner McCloud the highlander to perfection, moody, mysterious, swashbuckling, daring, dashing, witty, and willing to give everything to protect good and yes the love of his life. Sean Connery,Juan Villalobos Ramirez the definition of a true gentleman, witty, sly, willing to still teach and lead, dashing, full of wisdom, who lays down his own needs wants and desires for the greater good in life. Not to take away from Micheal Ironside who I have always enjoyed watching plays Gen. Katana the evil bad guy' who wants the prize for himself, sends two underlings to kill Conner...but fail so Gen Katana has to do it himself. The story continues .... one must see for themself to enjoy this movie I give it un-measurable high scores for i am a huge fan of the series. So watch it and enjoy the QUICKENINGRead full review
In this labyrinthine sequel, the Immortal MacLeod (Christopher Lambert) saves the people of Earth from immanent ozone layer-related destruction by building a shield that deflects sunlight. But the people of Earth aren't especially grateful, as the constant state of night has made them cranky and prone to criminal sprees. Moreover, bounty hunters from the Immortals' home planet, Zeist, have given chase, and it could mean curtains for us all unless MacLeod and an ecologist can liberate the Earth and banish the assassins.
