I'm an avid Collective Soul fan so I'm pretty bias, however it's an excellent CD. I saw them live several times and they alway put on a good show and play to the bitter end. For those who are fans of Collective Soul, this is a really good CD from their early years once they'd gotten popular. Most folks are familiar with the song "Gel" and it's on this CD as well as several of there other hits. This is definitel a good buy.
The music of this band (this CD in particular) is a wonderful blend of rock and orchestral music (World I Know). The music has the ability to connect with their listeners on an instinctive level. Altough the theme of the songs on this CD are addressing everyday issues that evoke intense emotional responses in young people, it does so in a way that shows all that there are always positive ways to approach and to respond to these issues. The beat of the music can be felt deep in your bones whether played at an ear-splitting volume or at a more moderate level. I enjoy this cd for the relatively upbeat tone and the wonderful use music and their creative use of words to convey the group's messages. Although not their first CD, the music of this cd projected Collective Soul firmly into the nation's limelight. It connects with the more mature age goups, as well as the younger crowd. Nothing generational about this music! There is a reason this cd continues to receive air time with most radio station across the nation. I would and do recommend the album to everyone who has not listened to Collective Soul.Read full review
Great band with hard hitting drum tracks on three of the songs. The band is a down to earth band and are still cranking out great songs to this day. Listen to The world I used to know or Where the river flows on the cd. Then go to youtube and search for those songs and add Ryan Hoyle name after and watch the video of those songs being played by the drummer. I don't understand how his arms last through a two hour concert beating the drums the way he does. You get a real different perspective of the music. Then just sit back and enjoy the CD and relax.
I can't say that I dislike anything about this live CD. Of course it is different from the CDs recording in a studio. But that is one of the reasons I like Collective Soul as much as do. I always felt that their music spoke to my soul, but they are one of the few bands I have ever heard that sound as good in person as they do on CD. They don't use a lot of mixing and fancy gadgets. Therefore, their live performances sound a lot like the CDs. I am having trouble writing this because I am listening to this CD while writing and I can't quit moving around. I think Collective Soul does a wonderful job of providing music that appeals to many. For those who want to go a little bit further than just listening to Collective Soul on the radio, you will find very deep, provocative and moving messages in the lyrics. My only hesitation about this Live recording is that it was recorded in 2005, when the band was going through a lot of changes. I don't think the band sounds as cohesive as they do now--and I feel qualified to say that because I saw them again just a couple months ago. Collective Soul rocks, you can't go wrong with their music.Read full review
Wonderful as I remember it. Collective Soul one of the great groups of their era. This is my second copy as the first one was stolen.
