An artist singing from her soul
Marian Anderson is one of the great singers. Because of her cultural background, the combination of her classical training and her childhood musical experiences, no one excels Miss Anderson in singing negro spirituals. She brings her beautiful voice and her musical experience to these songs. Miss Anderson was famous of these selections. She sings them expressively. She sang some of these at every performance she gave. This is a large collection of spirituals. The two accompanists support Miss Anderson through equally expressive playing. Any other great singer known for these songs looks back to Miss Anderson with appreciation and admiration. Negro spirituals are part of our national heritage, and this American artist sang them around the world as a musical and a humanitarian United States representative. Her noble character coupled with her talent justifiably gained highest respect for her. Marian Anderson is a cultural icon and these are her "signature" songs.
