to get right to the point-there are dozens of Zappa must-have albums, unfortunately, this is not one of them. This collection actually contains very little music, good or bad. Instead, Frank apparently carried a portable tape recorder virtually everywhere on tour, and there are impromptu conversations recorded backstage, in hotel rooms, airports and on planes and even toilets, none of which would be of any interest to anyone but the most rabid Zappa diehard. There is also some between-song concert chatter and even some rehearsal run-thrus of songs in an early unfinished state. Of the music worth hearing, the fidelity is of wildly variable quality, mostly on the lower end of the spectrum. Most of the material appears to be from the early 70s era Kaylan-Volman band. Frank has more than 90 releases and at least 75 of them have superior and more important material than this one-I doubt that this one would have even been released during his lifetime. Surely in that vast vault there must be better material waiting to be heard. MB electdrumsRead full review
