Firmly situated with the gender moraes of the time - but the acting overcomes the limitations of the story. Norma Shearer gives a sincere and sensitive performance in this all-women film. Joan Crawford as the other woman is pretty good and catty, albeit a bit stereotypical. The film was innovative for its time, in featuring an all-women cast, and providing the storyline through the woman's point of view. However - it has the morality of the time period - a good wife forgives her husband's transgressions.
I have watched this movie many times before buying it. The cast is an old movie buff's dellight. Norma Shearer, Rosland Russell, Joan Crawford and the rest are magnificent, and the plot has a great twist for an age old problem some women face with their men. This is a classic and the fact that there are no men appearing just inhibits the importance of the mentioned male characters! A wonderful venue for an all girls movie night.
I had seen "The Women" on Turner Classic Movies and after that one time, I had to have it. I'm the type that likes to have on a good faimilar movie even when I'm just working around the house and this is one of those. Yes, some of the acting is a tad over the top,but who cares?? All these talented women in one movie Norma Shearer, Joan Crawford, Joan Fontaine, so much talent and I just LOVE this story and movie
I loved it, I think it was in excellent shpae and the movie played great. I don't get tired of seening it over and over. its funny and dramactic. I bought because of the actress in it. They are all very talented and this movies brings out the best in them.
