The Specials, it is just that. Back in the mid to late 70s, England had this explosion of Jamaican ska music. As far as I remember, The Specials were one of the early groups to embrace it and make it theirs. They stayed loyal to the island sound, with just a bit of Punk influence. From the tune "Rudy, a message to you", think of it as a wake up call to the youth, and their responsibilities of growing up educated. By the time ska was introduced and got just a little bit of airplay in the U.K. and the States, it seem to way down. But, before The Specials rallyed out of the picture. They made one last plea to South Africa, thus, "Free, Nelson Mandela" was born. To get rid of aparthied, you must free the strongest voice of freedom. This 12" dance mix will be remembered as a nice tribute. To further exemplify the addictive tones that ska possess, listen to "Too much, too young", the energy in that live performance is something a lot of bands wish they could exhibit. The Specials, have always had place in my heart, as the bands that followed. If you want to hear good Ska music, this is a great start for your collection.Read full review
