On Daydream Nation, we hear Sonic Youth in perfect non-harmony. The quasi-pop opener "Teenage Riot" hints at a kinder, gentler Youth that "has hammer that's rockin', a cord, & a peddle, & a life that will do me for now." This soon fades into the background with white noise jams like "Silver Rocket", "The Sprawl", & "Cross The Breeze." On first listen the album gets it's hooks into you so bad that by the time you get to the closing Trilogy your life has already been changed. Then Sonic Youth kicks it into top gear and kicks your butt so hard you can't wait to listen to it again. Definately the place to start if you are new to Sonic Youth, the rest of their albums are definately either Pre or Post Daydream Nation. PS Ranked #1 Album of the 1980's by Pitchfork Media.
Daydream Nation Rolling Stone Magazine's top 500 album. Good piece of music.
