It's The Seventh Seal, for God's sake! One of the greatest films ever! Though my personal favorite Bergman film is Wild Strawberries.

Movies can be entertianing, funny, epic, or mundane, but the reason i am drawn to them is becuase of their ability to let me expeirience something i could not have otherwise. Whether it be through intense-action, charming characters, or suspenseful disturbing existential plots. The seventh seal by has all of these qualities, but it is the over-all atmosphere which makes this a must see. Now before i go into a generic rant about how it is the best movie ever made let me just say that, for me, it did not live up to the hype. I first heard of this movie at imdb.com becuase i was tired with Hollywood films and wanted to see what other countries endevors into the visual media were like. I believe the seventh seal was at the top of the list. I love chess, i love philosophy, i love medival knights, i love hamsandwiches and i am Swedish. When i read that the film was swedish made, about a Knight coming back from the crusades who plays death in a game of chess i thought ok, this movie is going to absolutly blow me away, i was so it excited to see it (warning: slight spoiler approaching), that when i finally did see it, the real movie could not have possibly have lived up to the one i had created in my mind. it was too slow and the ending, i felt like death could have been a little more interesting, but the major dissapointment was the ending, i felt that it didnt really go anywhere, it had the potential, but remained... confusingly mediocore. That being said, it was not until after the movie was over that i realized what a distict vision the film presented. Black and White, made in the 50's, you know a film like this will never be made again. it presents a realism that so many others lack. specifically (warning: pretty significant spoiler approaching) there is a scene in a village that is slowly decaying. The inhabitants are dying of the plague and there is a sort of madness in the air that is unreal to the 21st centuray. in black hooded robes a chorus of monks/priests/townspeople/afflicted(im not exactly certain who they are) stroll by. there is something about hearing their chant and seeing their faces that transports me back in time. it becomes all to clear that this is the history of the planet. that these events happened right here on our earth, and that i was there. So why did i decide to buy this movie? If you havent figured that out then how are you able to operate such a complex machine as the one in front of you. Of course there are other reasons. Being exposed to constant media has ampliphied my already obsessive tendencies to collect things. Or maybe im jealous of all of my friends vast dvd colections. Or maybe it just makes me feel good to buy things. i think humans by nature are packrats, for thousands of years we have been collecting stuff like food, tools, art, and why should it be any differant now. so let me testify to ebays genius ability to let me indulge my natural addiction. cheers oh and i almost forgot one very important fact: Max Von Sydow is sexy. that closely-cropped, slightly-messy, white-blond hair makes me warm inside. oh and i almost forgot to eat a hamsandwhich... which also makes me warm inside. in truth, if i could combine eating a hamsandwich and watching Max, which is very possible, then i would be warm inside like i have never been warm inside. looks like my date book is full till the end of december. i know that sounds dumb, but honestly who reads till the very end of a review anywayRead full review

One of the greatest films ever created.

This movie, though lessened by the English dubbing, is a pinnacle in film making and is required viewing by many institutions of higher learning in the arts. A well directed and screen played piece that endures the low tech disadvantages and reaches more for the essence of the moment and elements of the characters. Even the low brows can find the emotion within its black and white frames.
A classic
